The story, in my own words

It started with a small frustration that wouldn't go away. Every time I needed a word count, I opened Google Docs, waited for it to load, pasted my text, clicked through a menu — and by then, the sentence I was about to write had already left my head.

I kept thinking: this should take one second, not ten. So one weekend I sat down and started building the word counter I actually wanted to use. No login. No upsell. No cookie banner wrestling me for attention. Just a clean page, a textarea, and the answer.

“I didn't want to build a product. I wanted to give people back the five seconds they lose every time a bloated tool gets in their way.”

— İsmail Günaydın

That little tool became TextWordCount. And then I kept building. A unit converter, because I was tired of searching “how many cups in 200ml” five times a week. A health calculator, because the existing ones were buried under ads. A PDF toolkit, because uploading a private document to a stranger's server never felt right.

Every tool you see on this page came from the same place: a real problem I had, and a stubborn belief that the solution should be free, fast, and respectful of your time and your data.

That's still the rule. That will always be the rule.

The problem we saw

Most online word counters are slow, ad-loaded, privacy-hostile, and feature-frozen since 2015. They paste your text into a server somewhere, log it for ad targeting, and return a number that sometimes disagrees with Microsoft Word. Writers doing sensitive work — legal drafts, unpublished manuscripts, client content — shouldn't have to trust a stranger's server just to count their words.

I built TextWordCount because I needed it myself: writing books, blog posts, and client SEO content, I was constantly switching between tools that each had a fatal flaw — too slow, too many ads, wrong character count, no sentence counter, no keyword density, no reading time. No single tool did everything correctly, for free, without requiring a login or uploading text to a cloud.

So I built one. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing leaves your device. Free since day one — because the alternative is paying for something that should cost nothing.

A bit more about me

I'm a software engineer and independent maker. I've spent most of my career building things for the web — the kind of work where you ship on Friday, read the feedback on Saturday, and fix it on Sunday. I love that loop.

I work primarily with Next.js, React and TypeScript, and I care deeply about two things most people never notice until they're missing: performance and user experience. A tool that loads in 200ms feels like magic. A tool that loads in 4 seconds feels like homework. I want mine to feel like magic.

My background is unusual for a web developer. I studied chemistry, philosophy, and computer programming — a combination that shows up in how I approach text analysis: precisely, systematically, and with attention to edge cases. I spent 20 years in retail sales, rising to department manager at premium brands. That experience taught me more about user empathy than any UX course — when you serve customers face to face, you learn fast what friction costs them and what clarity earns you.

I've been practising SEO, GEO (Generative Engine Optimization), and AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) for 15+ years, which is why the keyword density analyzer is genuinely useful rather than a gimmick — I use it in my own content work daily. I'm a self-taught web developer since 2020 and have published 11+ books on Amazon KDP, which means I've been a heavy user of word counters long before I built my own. You can read more about my work at ismailgunaydin.com or find my Wikidata entity at Q138653257.

Outside of my own projects, I run ModernWebSEO, where I help small businesses grow online with honest, technical SEO — no black-hat tricks, no empty dashboards, just work that moves the needle.

What I believe

Your text never leaves your browser.

All processing — word counting, text analysis, AI writing tools — runs inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server.

If it's free, it should actually be free.

No paywalls, no upsells blocking core features. Every tool on this site is fully usable without a credit card.

Speed matters.

A word counter that takes 3 seconds to load has failed. TextWordCount loads in under a second and updates as you type.

AI tools should add value, not lock features.

Paraphrase, grammar fix, text optimization — all free, all unlimited, all running in your browser. No credit system.

Real users built this — not a marketing committee.

A working SEO practitioner, content writer, and published author who needed this tool and couldn't find one good enough.

My mission — and what it means for you

You shouldn't have to open a word processor, create an account, or dismiss three pop-ups just to count the words in a sentence. Every second the tool takes is a second stolen from the thing you actually came here to do: write.

That's why I keep making TextWordCount faster, smarter and more useful — without ever asking you to pay, sign up, or give up your privacy. If you've ever used it on a deadline and felt that little rush of “okay, that was easy” — that's the whole point. That's why I built it.
