A Trailer Plays by Itself, and a Switch You Never Turned On Is Reporting What You Watch
You turn on the TV and a trailer plays by itself, a banner ad sits on top, and somewhere in the settings a feature you never switched on is reporting what is on your screen. The fixes online assume you know what ADB is, or only cover one brand.
Smart TV Privacy Kit is a plain-English PDF kit for Google TV, Android TV, Fire TV, Samsung, LG, Roku and Vizio. Start with a 10-minute settings clean-up using only the remote, and undo any step. Ads inside streaming apps stay; the kit is honest about that.
Sound familiar
- “I pressed Home and a trailer started playing with the sound on. Again.”
- “Read an article saying my TV logs what is on screen. Where is that switch?”
- “Every fix I find says "enable ADB". I just want fewer ads.”
- “Mum called because the home screen moved her apps around again.”
ACR, Brand by Brand
The Tracking Switch Has a Different Name on Every TV
ACR (automatic content recognition) lets the TV identify what is on your screen, and that data can be used for ads. Every path in the kit was checked in October 2026, and each page lists its sources.
What's Inside
Three Levels, Seven TV Systems, One Undo Card
Most people stop after Level 1. Levels 2 and 3 are there if your TV allows them.
Level 1: settings, 10 minutes
One page each for Google TV, Android TV, Fire TV, Samsung, LG, Roku and Vizio. Remote only: autoplay previews, ad personalization and the viewing-data switch your brand offers.
Level 2: a new home screen
Google TV, Android TV and Fire OS only. A remote-only launcher path and an Android phone path.
Level 3: deep clean (optional)
A prompt for Claude Code or Codex that only switches apps off, in batches of 3 to 5, after saving an undo file.
Undo for every step
An undo card for every path, the warning screens explained, and a 5-minute check after a TV update.
Set up a parent's TV
A 20-minute plan for a parent's TV, plus a script for helping over the phone.
23 PDFs in 14-point type
Including a 64-page complete guide and a printable checklist.

For you if
- You want the home screen trailers and the "recommended for you" rows gone, or at least quieter.
- You want your TV to stop reporting what you watch, where the TV lets you switch that off.
- You are nervous about breaking the TV and want an undo step for every change.
- You look after the TVs at your parents' place too and want one guide for every brand.
Not for you if
- You want to remove ads inside Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu or free YouTube. Those come from the app, and this kit does not touch them.
- You want every home screen ad gone on Samsung, Roku or Vizio. There is no switch for that. Level 1 cuts what the menus allow.
- You have a new Fire TV Stick with Vega OS and want a new home screen. Vega OS blocks it, so only Level 1 applies.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I remove all ads from my smart TV with this kit?
No. Ads inside streaming apps stay, and Google says ads on Google TV cannot be fully turned off, only made less personal. Samsung, Roku and Vizio keep ads on their home screens, and LG Channels stays on LG TVs. The kit turns off what the menus allow, and on Google TV, Android TV and Fire OS it shows how to swap in a cleaner home screen.
Which TVs does it cover?
Level 1 has one page each for Google TV, Android TV, Fire TV, Samsung (Tizen), LG (webOS), Roku and Vizio. Brands like Sony, TCL, Hisense and Philips run one of these systems, and the find-your-TV page shows how to tell which. China-market firmware is not covered.
Do I need a computer?
Not for most of it. Level 1 and the Projectivy home screen path use only the TV remote. The phone path needs an Android phone with Android 9 or newer. Only the optional Level 3 needs a computer and an AI coding assistant such as Claude Code or Codex.
Can I undo the changes?
Yes. Level 1 is switches in the normal settings menu, so you turn them back on. The home screen paths switch apps off instead of deleting them, and the undo card covers every path. Changing your TV software may affect its warranty or support, which the license page says up front.
Has the kit been tested on real TVs?
Yes. The steps were tested on real TVs. Menu paths also come from manufacturer support pages and recent reviews, each page lists its sources, and every path was checked in October 2026. Menus differ by model and year, so each page says where to look if a label is different.
What happens after a TV update?
Updates can switch some settings back on, and on Android-based TVs they can bring switched-off apps back. The kit has a 5-minute check to run after any update you notice, or once a month. Updates to the kit itself come free through the same download link.
